The work by Inês Coelho da Silva cultivates the close relationship between body and matter. It invites the viewer to get up close to the objects, intending on silently comprehending them, with care and availability, to not disturb their latent state of stability. The artist proposes an inversion of this paradigm for the MUSEU. There, an obstacle — the glass — prevents the physicality of the encounter, allowing the observer to exercise their only minimum condition: observing.
In this situation of distancing, the objects exhibited can never be read as two, one-and-another; but always as an image, a whole.
In the MUSEU atmosphere, the discourses from the author, the viewer, and the venue itself merge together in an essay on relationships, expectations, and perception.
Inês Coelho da Silva
The proposal to exhibit Escadote roubado encontrado na casa de um contrabandista português dos anos 60 at the MUSEU is inspired by the Francisco Tropa exhibition Tesouros Submersos do Antigo Egipto, as well as the text «Valery-Proust Museum» by Theodor Adorno. The work depicts the adding of a time trajectory (non-archaeological) which adds a layer of information — simultaneously both fictional and real — by carrying an energy charge, creating many plots set off by the object.
